Welcome to Fear City Cover Reveal
Revealing a cover when you’ve illustrated it and were along for the whole process inspires some unique feelings when it comes to the reveal. It’s less of a surprise, for one thing, and you sit there hoping you don’t notice something wrong with the art that you can no longer fix.
My single demand that I was not going to budge on was that it needed to inspire the feeling of a 70’s paperback. Initially, I wanted a more direct reference to the pamphlet that I stole the title from, with maybe a spot gloss skull you would only notice in certain light. Marcie Lawrence, my designer, suggested adding creases and other texture, which I was immediately married to.
Somewhere down the line I’ll make a more thorough post about the process of coming to this final design. It took a lot of rounds to get here.
