NEW BOOK DEAL
Finally! I can talk about it! Though I have to condition myself to not speak of my writing like I’m just posting it on livejournal. What I mean is, I need to not spoil what happens.
Ultimate publishing goal achieved: fully illustrated prose novel. Let there be more hybrids!
I started FEAR CITY (title stolen from the NYPD scaremongering pamphlets) back in 2016. By which I mean, I came up with the basic concept: girl can touch buildings and see the past of that building (something I wish I could do). How that was going to manifest itself into a plot, I didn’t know. There are too many options for that conceit. How it became a horror novel? I don’t remember. It just did. As a kid, I used to write horror more than anything else, so I’m back to my roots.
I picked away at it for a while, sorting out a story and characters. Wrote probably 80% of the first draft for NaNoWriMo 2018. Researched more. Scrapped most of the first draft. Then started and finished the next couple drafts in 2022. Yes, last year. January through July. My agent and I made it a goal to get ‘er done. We got ‘er done.
There will be a dedicated FEAR CITY section on the site sometime next year. Glossaries, extra art, research materials, historical context, etc.
To celebrate, here’s the first character study I did in 2017, and the updated version from last year.
